If a single red blood cell was placed into distilled water, what do you think would happen to the cell?

water would enter the blood cell, because there is a lower concentratuon of water in the blood cell than outside...and water always moves from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration in order for the cell to be at homeostasis (or balanced) with its environment ...the solution is said to be hypotonic because it will cause the red blood cell to "pop" or swell as the water enters it.
